The deceased were identified as Sangram, 42, and Asim, 52.

The "gunfight" took place around 12:15pm when the members of elite forces conducted a raid at a seven-storey building at Madina Masjid Road in Alambagh area, Mostafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kadamtoli Police Station, told The Daily Star.

Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the abductors opened fire on them, triggering the "gunfight", the OC said.

During the "gunfight", both the deceased came in line of fire and died on the spot, the OC added.

After the "gunfight", law enforcers also recovered two pistols from the scene.
