18 suspected pickets held in Dhaka

Law enforcers today recovered 16 firebombs and seven crude bombs in separate drives in Chittagong and Bhola.

In a similar drive, at least 18 alleged activists of BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami were detained in Dhaka for their involvement in subversive activities in 24 hours until this morning.

Fifteen of the detainees belong to BNP while rest to Jamaat, Dhaka Metropolitan Police said in a message issued for the media today.

In a separate incident, five firebombs and seven crude bombs were seized from Chittagong city’s Kodalkata area early today.

A team of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) made the haul around 2:00am on information that a group was gathering there to carry out subversive activities, our Chittagong correspondent reports quoting ASP Sohel Mahmaud, assistant director of the Rab-7.

In Bhola, 11 petrol bombs were recovered from a drain in Pach Tahabir Sarak area in the town, reports our district correspondent.

Tipped-off, detectives recovered the firebombs near Bhola Diagnostic Centre around 6:30pm, said Harun-or-Rashid, officer-in-charge of Bhola Sadar Police Station.
