11 killed in road mishaps ahead of Eid

At least 11 people were killed and 20 others injured in separate road accidents in Mymensingh, Gaibandha, Rajshahi and Brahmanbaria districts on Sunday.
The accidents took place a day before Eid-ul-Azha during the rush of home-goers ahead of the second largest festival of Muslims in the country.

6 killed in Mymensingh

Six persons were killed and at least five injured after a bus rammed into a human hauler on Rahamatpur bypass road in Mymensingh Sadar upazila around 12:00 noon.
One person died on the spot and 10 others injured were rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, said Abu Md Fazlul Karim, the officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station.
Five of the deceased were identified: Nasiruddin, 35, son of Danes Ali, Parvin Akhter, 22, daughter of Hamed Ali, her sister Sharmin Akhter, 18, Sekandar Ali, son of late Abdul Majid and Kalu Mia, 22.
The reserve bus, headed for Jamalpur from Dhaka, fled from the scene, our Mymensingh correspondent reported quoting the OC.
Agitated locals blocked the road for about an hour and half after protesting the accident.

In Gaibandha

A woman was killed and at least 12 others injured after a passenger bus collided head-on with a microbus on the Bogra-Rangpur highway in Gobindaganj upazila around 6:00am, reports BSS.
The victim was identified as Anjuara Begum, 30, a garment worker and daughter of Abu Prodhan of Satitala village under Shaghata upazila of Gaibandha.
ABM Jahidul Islam, OC of Gobindaganj Police Station, said three people were admitted to Rangpur Medical College and Hospital, while four others were rushed to Shahid Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogra as their condition deteriorated.

Youth killed in Rajshahi

Hassan Ali, 25, was run over by a laden truck at the Sargachhi crossing under Puthiya upazila of the district around 9:30am, reports BSS.
Agitated locals set fire to the truck after the incident. “Fire fighters doused the flames later,” Shafiul Alam, officer-in-charge of Puthiya Police Station, told BSS.
The body was sent to Rajshahi Medical College morgue for post mortem.
A case of unnatural death was recorded with the police station in connection to the accident, the OC added.

Woman, twin sons killed in Brahmanbaria

A woman, Rubina Akhter, 25, and her seven-year-old twin sons Sourov and Nirob, from Nabinagar upazila were killed after a microbus plunged into a roadside ditch in Brahmanbaria Sadar around 5:00am, BSS reports.
The driver lost control over the steering and drove into a ditch on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway, said Md Yusuf, assistant sub-inspector of Brahmanbaria Sadar Model Police Station.
Hanif Mia, husband of Rubina, said they were going to their village home in Pyara of Nabinagar after midnight.
There were 11 passengers in the microbus.
Eight of the passengers managed to come out of the microbus while his wife and two sons were trapped inside it and died, he said.
