1,000 litres of adulterated hand sanitiser seized in Chattogram city

Local administration seized around 1,000 litres of adulterated hand sanitiser and fined tradersTk 75,000 for running their businesses illegally at different parts of Chattogram city during a three-day drive.

A group of dishonest traders have been running the business of adulterated hand sanitisers at different places including Khatunganj, KalurGhat, SadarGhat and Hazari Lane areas in the port city, taking opportunity of the coronavirus pandemic, reports our local correspondent quoting Executive Magistrate ShirinAkter.

Based on intelligence, the executive magistrate, along with a team of law enforcers, went to Khatunganj area today morning and recovered around 100 litres of adulterated hand sanitisers from three perfume shops, she said.

The executive magistrate also fined the shop ownersTk 30, 000 for running the illegal business amid the coronavirus crisis.

"They are engaged in producing and selling such hand sanitizers without any permission from the drug administration," Shirin Akhter said.

Talking to the correspondent, Executive Magistrate Umar Faruque of Chattogram district administration said, "A group of people are trying to make money by producing and selling adulterated sanitisers because of the skyrocketing demand during the coronavirus crisis."
