10 new HC judges sworn in

Ten additional judges of the High Court (HC) Division of the Supreme Court were sworn in this morning.

Chief Justice SK Sinha administered the oath at the Supreme Court auditorium at 10:30am.

Judges of the Appellate Division and High Court Division were present at the oath-taking ceremony.

President Abdul Hamid made the appointment for two years as per Article 98 of the constitution, raising the number of HC judges to 97.

The new judges are Deputy Attorneys General Rajik Al Jalil, Bhismadeb Chakrabarti, Md Selim and Md Sohrawardi, Supreme Court lawyers Khijir Ahmed Chowdhury, Jyotirmoy Narayan Deb Chowdhury and Md Iqbal Kabir Lytton, Metropolitan Sessions Judge of Chittagong SM Mojibur Rahman, Supreme Court Registrar Md Farid Ahmed Shibli and District and Sessions Judge of Gazipur Amir Hossain.

The Awami League-led grand alliance government has so far appointed 68 HC judges after assuming power in 2009.
