1 dies, 3 hurt as CNG-run auto-rickshaw catches fire

A woman died and three people suffered burn injuries as a CNG-driven auto-rickshaw caught fire after it was hit by a bus at Tejgaon industrial area in Dhaka this afternoon.

Identities of the dead and injured persons could not be known immediately.

The incident occurred at Love Lane around 3:45pm, said Bhajan Sarkar, a duty officer of Fire Service and Civil Defence.

On information, two firefighting units rushed to the scene, doused the flame and rescued four three-wheeler passengers with severe burn injuries.

The victims were taken to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital where the woman was declared ‘brought dead’, the hospital sources said.

Confirming the incident, Md Salauddin, officer-in-charge of Tejgaon Industrial Police Station, said police seized the bus but its driver went into hiding.
