There will be no opportunity for new candidates to apply for candidacy ahead of the election, the Election Commission said today.
Election Commission Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed said today, there is no time to accept fresh nominations ahead of the election.
This means that those constituencies where BNP’s candidates have been annulled will remain devoid of a candidate of the major opposition party.
According to law it is not possible to receive new candidature where BNP candidates failed to pass scrutiny, he told reporters in a briefing at the commission's Agargaon office.
“There’s no option to defer the elections or give scopes to new candidates,” he said, with just over a week remaining to the election on December 30.
