Dipan murder: Prime accused remanded
A Dhaka court today granted 6-day remand to Moinul Islam Shamim alias Sifat alias Samir who was arrested earlier in the day as the prime accused in Dipan murder case.
Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ahsan Habib passed the order after Detective Branch Inspector Fazlur Rahman placed Moinul before it with a 10-day remand prayer.
Faisal Arefin Dipan was killed for publishing books written by slain writer Avijit Roy, police said today after arresting the prime accused in Dipan murder case.

Arrestee Moinul Islam Shamim alias Sifat alias Samir, a key organiser of the banned Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) with Tk 2 lakh bounty on him, was produced before the media today.
He was held from Cherag Ali Market in Tongi of Gazipur, on the outskirts of capital Dhaka, last night, said Masudur Rahman, deputy commissioner (media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
Later at a press briefing, police said he was trainer of the assailants who murdered Jagriti Prokashoni publisher Faisal Arefin Dipan and the coordinator of the killing mission.
“Dipan was killed for publishing books written by Avijit Roy,” Monirul Islam, chief of Bangladesh’s specialised Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit, said at a press conference.
Citing from information obtained after primary interrogation of Shamim, Monirul also added that the detainee also divulged information leading to sacked and absconding Maj Zia’s link to Dipan’s killing.
Jagriti Prokashoni owner Dipan was stabbed dead inside his office in Dhaka’s Aziz Super Market on October 31 last year. The same day, another publisher was knifed brutally in the capital.
Avijit Roy, a freethinking writer, was brutally hacked to death in Dhaka University area on February 26, 2015, when he was coming out of Ekushey Book Fair. His wife was injured in the attack.
Police also claimed to have found Shamim's link in the killing of Riaz Morshed Babu, a music department student of Shanto-Mariam Univeristy, in Savar in January this year.
