A week has passed since the havoc in Rangamati’s Longadu, where Bangalees attacked indigenous community over the body of a Bangalee motorcycle driver.
Over 200 houses were burned to ashes and hundreds left to flee the terror that was unleashed in three villages – Tintilla, Manikjhorchora and Baittapara.
Now, the affected villages resemble a deserted wasteland. Villagers say they cannot yet muster the courage to return to their lands, where they would have to start from scratch.
They did not go to the temporary shelter of the local administration and did not take relief either. The only thing they wanted was justice and exemplary punishment of the culprits.
