Militancy: Nahid calls for social resistance
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid today called on private universities to build up a social resistance against the threat of militancy in the country.
“We have to build social resistance so that we can keep our children from involving into the militancy,” he told university authorities and guardians.

His comment came at a discussion with authorities of private universities in the backdrop of finding militancy involvement of private university students following Dhaka attack and Sholakia attack.
Nahid, chief guest of the discussion, urged teachers to nurture morality, humanity and values among the students. “You (teachers) have to supervise your students.”
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan presided over the meeting that has Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid as chief guest and was attended by vice-chancellors of private universities.

Teachers and student representatives of those private universities and high-ups of the law enforcement agencies were in the meeting that began around 10:15am.
After this meeting, organised with a mutual view to stop students from getting involved in militancy, the government plans to sit with public universities over the same.
Currently, there are a total of 95 privately-run universities in Bangladesh. Of these, 80 universities are running their academic activities and curriculum.
The gruesome Dhaka attack, where 20 people – mostly foreigners – were killed, followed by the attack on Sholakia Eidgah revealed the involvement of private university students in militancy.
Currently, there is a standing instruction on teachers and university authorities to inform the government of any “suspicious” student activities.
