World's largest arts, architecture and trans-cultural histories of SA
The entire National Art Gallery Building of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy has got a new lease of life as the fourth edition of Dhaka Art Summit 2018 sets off tomorrow. Eminent art connoisseur and Finance Minister AMA Muhith will inaugurate the magnificent fiesta of world's largest display of South Asian and South-East Asian arts and architecture at 10am on the day.
The venue for the upcoming nine days (February2-10) will go vibrant with the vivacious presence of global artists, architects, aficionados, critics and for all as the event is ticketless and open for all.
Credit obviously goes to Samdani Art Foundation for organising such a wonderful event biennially. The summit, an international, non-commercial and research-based exhibition platform, was founded by Nadia and Rajeeb Samdani in 2012. Ministry of Cultural Affairs, Ministry of Information, The National Tourism Board, Bangladesh Investment Development Authority and Bangladesh National Museum are supporting the great cause that has already created an excellent image of Bangladesh with Dhaka becoming the true global hub of art, architecture and culture.
At an informal press conference with cultural journalists, Nadia and Rajeeb Samdani briefed this edition's multitude arrangements. A tour by the galleries and plaza premises signifies the magnificence of gigantic preparatory tasks and aesthetic touch by the 10 world's renowned art curators and over 300 artists from 35 countries.
Led by chief curator Diana Campbell Betancourt, renowned local and international guest curators are all set to unlock new areas of inquiry into collaborative group exhibitions, performances, symposiums and talks, critical writing ensemble, film screening, educational pavilion and more at the summit.
Other initiatives include Samdani Art and Architecture Awards, and the Samdani Seminar Programme -- that will host lectures and workshops by international art professionals -- demonstrating the summit's developmental commitment to the local arts community.
The glorious presence of Bangladeshi arts and architectural designs -- be it classical, contemporary and folk, have their distinctive and prominent projections. The Asian Art Biennale Context is one of them. Focusing on the first four editions of the oldest surviving biennale of Asia, the exhibition, featuring collections from BSA and the achieve of the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum, will reflect Bangladesh's rich history of large-scale recurring international exhibitions.
The world is eagerly looking at the happenings and every moment's artistic proceedings of the prestigious summit that is open daily from 10am to 8pm. A number of mind-blowing solo and shared art projects will definitely enthrall the connoisseurs and enthusiasts of art. Arts on display evoke diverse socio-political and environmental issues together with thematic representation of arts beautifully depicting the twisting course of time and space through its journey towards trans-cultural histories, philosophies and the ways of life.
