Kanthashilon's Waheedul Haq Memorial Fest begins tomorrow
Kanthashilon, a reputed cultural organisation, has arranged a two-day (March 16-17) festival titled 'Waheedul Haq Memorial Festival-2018', on the occasion of the 85th birth anniversary of the noted Tagore exponent and cultural activist, also a founder member Kanthashilon. The festival will be held at the Shawkat Osman Memorial auditorium of Central Public Library, Shahbagh in the capital.
The festival, featuring solo and group presentations of poems, songs, dances, instrumental recitals, Brotochari dance, jarigaan, palagaan, puNthipaath, discussion, reminiscence, colourful procession and more, will begin tomorrow morning at 10am.
A press conference was held yesterday in this regard at National Press Club where Kanthashilon president Golam Sarwar, principal Mir Barkat, vice-president Ahmadul Hasan Hasnu, general secretary Rais ul Islam, and an executive member Shirin Islam were present and elaborated on the festival.
Following the hoisting of National Flag, Surotirtha artistes will render National Anthem and inaugural song while Rameshwar with his troupe will play dhak-dhol in the morning of the opening day. Noted dancer Tamanna Rahman and her troupe will perform dances.
The inauguration ceremony will take place at the auditorium. Veteran cultural personality Kamal Lohani will grace the occasion as chief guest while Manchasarathi Ataur Rahman, renowned thespian Mamunur Rashid, Shabdo Shoinik Ashraful Alam and poet Tarik Sujat will attend the event as special guests. Principal of the organisation Mir Barkat will deliver welcome address while Golam Sarwar, president of Kanthashilon will preside over the programme.
A colourful procession will circle several streets of the capital. The evening session of the inaugural day will take place at the same venue featuring various cultural performances. Discussion with diverse cultural proceedings will also follow on the second day of festival starting from 10am at the same venue.
