Indian cops raid Zakir Naik’s NGO offices
India's National Investigation Agency (NIA) today conducted raids at 10 offices of Islamic Research Foundation (IRF), an NGO of Zakir Naik in Mumbai, local media reported.
The move came a few days after the Indian government banned IRF under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).
IRF came under the scanner of various security agencies in India after one of the terrorists involved in Holey Artisan cafe attack in Dhaka had allegedly posted on social media that they had been inspired by Naik's speeches, reports our New Delhi correspondent.
According to the Indian home ministry, Naik, who heads IRF, has allegedly made many provocative speeches and engaged in terror propaganda.
NIA's Mumbai branch last night lodged a case against Naik under 153-A of IPC (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion...and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony) and various sections of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, reports Times of India.
Later, NIA officials along with the help of local police began the searches this morning.
