Nawaz Sharif elected PML (N) party chief
Pakistan's Nawaz Sharif, who had to quit as prime minister after he was disqualified by his country's supreme court, was elected unopposed to the post of president of his eponymous party, the PML (N), Pakistani media reported yesterday. Sharif managed to regain his party's top post thanks to an amended bill passed on Monday in the country's National Assembly which was tailor-made for Sharif's situation.
