War crimes accused sent to jail
A court here yesterday sent Shamsuddin Ahmed to jail in a case for crimes against humanity during the Liberation War.
He was arrested on Thursday for his alleged crimes of killing, arson attack and looting in 1971.
Senior Judicial Magistrate SM Rajibul Hasan passed the order when police produced the arrestee before the court at noon.
The court also ordered that the relevant documents be sent to the International Crimes Tribunal.
A team of Kishoreganj police arrested Shamsuddin from Chourasta Bus Stand in Nandail upazila of Mymensingh. He was waiting there for a bus to go to Chittagong.
Law enforcers later took him to Kishoreganj Model Police Station.
Shamsuddin had been accused of killing 10 people, carrying out arson attacks and looting in Karimganj upazila during the Liberation War.
On May 2, 2010, a case was filed against Shamsuddin in connection with the killing of Miah Hossain, a resident of Ayla village in Karimganj upazila of the district.
Later, ICT investigating officer M Ataur Rahman and coordinator M Sanaul Haq visited the area several times.
On November 25, they submitted the final investigation report against Shamsuddin Ahmed and his brother Nasiruddin Ahmed.
