Villagers themselves do it as authorities fail to wake up
Failing to get proper assistance from the authorities concerned, the villagers have finally joined their hands to repair the dilapidated Protapi-Jogonathpur Road in Komolganj upazila.
The four-kilometer road is in bad condition for over two years, causing several terrible accidents in the last few months, said the residents of Protapi village.
During the monsoon the road goes under water, increasing the sufferings of the villagers, especially the school going children, they said.
“We could not send our children to school during heavy rain last year as the road was inundated”, said Tajul Miah, a resident of the village.
Despite repeated pleas, the union parishad and other authorities did not take any steps to improve the condition of the road, said another villager, Abdul Malik.
Finding no other alternative, over 100 people of the area on Thursday started repairing the road themselves by putting earth on it, he said.
Contacted, local UP member Shahid Ullah said they brought the matter to the notice of the authorities several times but failed to get any response in this regard.
