US envoy William Brownfield arrives today
Ambassador William R Brownfield, assistant secretary of State for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, will arrive in Dhaka this evening on a three-day official visit.
Brownfield will meet with government officials to discuss US support for policing, border security, and criminal justice efforts in Bangladesh, according to a media note from Media Note from the office of the spokesperson in Washington, DC.
He will also deliver remarks at the regional Good Giving Counterterrorism Financing Training Conference, and will be joined there by Bangladesh Law Minister Anisul Huq and approximately 40 attendees from Bangladesh, Maldives, Nepal, and Pakistan.
The United States and Bangladesh partner on a variety of security issues, including community policing, as well as technical assistance and capacity building to improve Bangladesh’s criminal justice systems.
Specific initiatives include the creation of community forums and women’s shelters, and the reform and development of law enforcement curriculum to include arson investigation and other specialised courses.
