Two Rab men hacked by fake dollar traders
Two members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) received serious injuries as fake dollar traders hacked them with machetes in Birganj upazila under the district yesterday afternoon.
The victims -- Md Khairul Islam, a sub-inspector, and Md Dulal, a constable, of Rab-13 of Dinajpur, were rushed to Birganj upazila Health Complex and the doctors referred them to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
The injured Rab members are likely to be shifted to Dhaka by a helicopter, Rab sources said.
Tipped off, a plain-clothes team of Rab-13 comprising seven to eight members raided the house of Karimul Islam, a ringleader of fake dollar trading gang of Satkhamar village under Moricha union of Birganj upazila around 3:00pm yesterday, said witnesses.
As the Rab members were returning after conducting the raid, over 50 people, most of them members of a fake dollar trading group in the area, attacked the law enforcers with sharp weapons, injured the two Rab men.
The criminals also snatched away a pistol from them.
The Rab members fired bullets to bring the situation under control.
Later, villagers led by Moricha union parishad Chairman Md Hafizur Rahman Chowdhury Badsha helped the Rab members to leave the spot and took them to Birganj Upazila Health Complex.
Two Rab members and Md Karim, a fake dollar trader of the village, were injured during the clash, said the UP chairman.
Karim is also undergoing treatment at Birganj Upazila Health Complex.
Contacted, Major Khalid Ibne Hossain, commander of Dinajpur Rab-13, confirmed that two members of his battalion were injured in a clash in Birganj upazila yesterday afternoon.
After the clash, a large number of policemen went to the village, recovered the snatched pistol and arrested seven people in connection with the attack on law enforcers.
