Truckers block highway protesting fellow’s death for 3hrs
Vehicular movement on Dhaka-Rajshahi highway remained suspended for three and a half hours this morning as truckers blocked the highway in Puthia upazila of Rajshahi protesting the killing of a truck driver.
Quoting truck workers, Abu Obaida Khan, officer-in-charge of Puthia Police Station, said miscreants picked up Ashanta Bhattacharya, 45, from his Palpara residence in the upazila Thursday night.
Police recovered the body of Bhattacharya hanging from a mango tree adjacent to his residence this morning, reports our Rajshahi correspondent.
Soon after the body was found, a group of unruly truck drivers took to the streets, halting traffic movement on the highway since 9:00am.
The agitators removed the barricades from the highway around 12:30pm after Khandakar Forhad Ahmed, local upazila nirbahi officer, assured them of arresting the killers as soon as possible.
The body of Bhattacharya was sent to the Rajshahi Medical Collage Hospital for autopsy.
