From the shaheed minar, the body was taken to the Supreme Court premises around 1:00pm where his first namaz-e-Janaza was held.
Chief Justice Md Muzammel Hossain, newly appointed Law Minister Anisul Huq, eminent jurist Dr Kamal Hossain, Attorney General Mahbubey Alam and SC lawyers and officials took part in the Janaza.
He will be buried at Banani Graveyard after his second namaz-e-Janaza at Azad Mosque in Gulshan.
As the body reached the shaheed minar premises at 11:26am, people from all walks of life including political leaders and cultural figures paid homage to the former chief adviser to a caretaker government by placing floral wreaths at his coffin.
Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu, Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid and Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzman Noor were present there among others.
Rahman breathed his last at United Hospital of the capital Saturday night at the age of 85.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid a visit to the Gulshan residence of the former chief justice in the morning and stayed beside the body for some time.
She also prayed for the departed soul and consoled the bereaved family.
He is survived by his wife and three daughters.
