Tk 5 lakh reward for info on Jatrabari arsonists
Police have declared Tk 5 lakh reward for helping arrest people behind the Jatrabari bus arson that left 28 burnt yesterday.
Police Headquarters issued a circular this evening saying a reward of Tk 5 lakh will be provided to the people who will help police with information about the arsonists.
The circular added that the identity of the informants will not be disclosed, Kamrul Islam, senior information officer at the Police Headquarters, told The Daily Star.
The informants have been asked to contact the deputy police commissioner (Wari Division) at 01713373138 or, additional deputy commissioner of Detective Branch of Police (East), or the Kotwali Police Station officer-in-charge at 01713373146.
The announcement came hours after Inspector General of Police AKM Shahidul Haque told The Daily Star that they working on the reward.
In one of the worst arson attacks on public transport, at least 28 people suffered burns as two petrol bombs thrown by suspected blockaders exploded inside a bus at Jatrabari in Dhaka last night.
Most of the passengers got their faces and necks burnt and suffered inhalation injuries.
Nine victims -- one with 48 percent and others with more than 15 percent burns -- were in critical condition while the rest suffered 3-15pc burns, burn treatment expert Dr Samanta Lal Sen said.
Earlier, the government and Rapid Action Battalion announced reward for the anarchists in wake of violence during the BNP-led 20-party alliance’s countrywide nonstop blockade.
