‘Textbook festival Jan 1 despite hartal’
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid today said the festival for distribution of books among the students of primary and secondary schools and madrasas would be held across the country on January 1, defying hartal.
He also asked the authorities concerned of all primary and secondary educational institutions to get prepared for making the ‘Text Book Distribution Festival Day’ a success, a source at the ministry told The Daily Star.
The education ministry came up with the decision hours after the Jamaat-e-Islami called two-day nationwide hartal for Wednesday and Thursday protesting the death sentence of one of the key leaders Azharul Islam of the party for wartime atrocities.
The first day of 2015 will be celebrated as "Text Book Distribution Festival" in all primary and secondary schools and madrasas across the country.
More than four crore primary and secondary school students will get their hands on new textbooks on the first morning of 2015, as the government has made all preparations to distribute around 32 crore copies of free textbooks.
