29 years after serving jail, 2 Jessore men declared innocent

Twenty-nine years after serving in jail, two convicts in a cattle smuggling case are declared innocent by the High Court. They were freed from jail in 1991 after completing their three years' sentence.

Finish trial of 139 prisoners by August

Amin of Segunbagicha in Dhaka was arrested on October 25, 2008, in connection with murder. He was 45 then. He has been in jail since then, which is almost 10 years. The case against him is pending with the Jono Nirapotta Bignokari Aporadh Daman Tribunal, Dhaka, without any significant progress.

Undertrial prisoners: HC orders to end trials of 139 by Aug 31

The High Court directs the trial courts concerned to finish the trial proceedings of the cases by August 31 against 139 undertrial prisoners who are suffering in 68 jails across the country for more than seven years.

SC legal aid body seeks undertrial prisoners’ details

The Supreme Court Legal Aid Committee today requested the inspector general of prisons to submit updated list of undertrial prisoners who are suffering in jails more than seven years across the country.
