Sust suspends 4 BCL men
The Shahjalal University of Science and Technology has suspended four activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League on the charge of assaulting an assistant proctor.
The decision came following a proctorial meeting on Tuesday evening, campus sources said.
The suspended are Ariful Haque Sony, fourth year student of food engineering and tea technology; Mehdi Hasan, fourth year of statistics; and Nazrul Islam and Khalilur Rahman, third and second years of social science.
Assistant Proctor Mirajul Islam was beat up by the four as he attempted to stop a student clash in where they were involved before the food court on the campus on Saturday evening, said witnesses.
In this regard, a probe committee was formed to decide on whether to expel the four, said Proctor Himadri Shekhor Roy.
Despite repeated attempts, the four could not be contacted as their mobiles were found switched off.
Meanwhile, local thugs stabbed a BCL activist of Rajshahi University unit on the campus on Tuesday night, reports our staff correspondent from Rajshahi.
With injuries to his chest, Torikul Islam, final year student of applied physics, was admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
He is a president candidate of Sayed Amir Ali Hall unit, said Alamgir Hossain, officer-in-charge of Motihar Police Station.
The miscreants attacked Torikul around 9:00pm as he owed some money to them over drug trade, he said.
RU BCL President Mizanur Rahman Rana said there was no organisational reason behind the attack.
