Sultan Utsob-2014 ends
An amazing one -hour acrobatic show made for a spellbound audience at the conclusion of Sultan Utsob-2014 at Shilpakala Academy premises on February 15 night.
Hundreds of Sultan admirers from different corners of Narail district and neighbouring districts enjoyed the fascinating feats of the acrobats from Dhaka.
Liaquat Ali Lucky, director general of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy said that the show and utshob were an initiative of the academy to disseminate Sultan's philosophy and his art to the next generation. He added that the acrobatic shows will be seen in 64 districts.
Ranjit Kumar Biswas, ndc, secretary, ministry of cultural affairs was present as chief guest on the concluding day. Among others, Liaquat Ali Lucky, was special guest while Abdul Gaffar Khan, deputy commissioner presided over the programme.
Local artistes and artistes from Dhaka performed to the delight of the local enthusiasts.
The programme included a replica art exhibition on Sultan, children's art exhibition, children's art camp, children's boat ride, commemorating Sultan, workshop, seminar, cultural festival, acrobatic show, Shilpo adda, Phita utshab and film screening.
S M Sultan was born on August 10 in 1923 to a poor family at Masimdia village of the district. Worldwide renowned painter Sultan's real name was Sheikh Mohammad Sultan. His father, Sheikh Messer was a mason by profession.
SM Sultan was conferred with the 'Ekushey Padak' and the Cambridge University declared him as the “Man of Asia” in the same year in 1984. He was honoured with “Charushilpi Sangshad Sanmanana” in 1986 and “Swadhinata Padak” in 1993.
SM Sultan died on October 10, 1994, at Jessore Combined Military Hospital (CMH) after suffering from a prolonged illness.
