THE PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATION
Ahmed Shafquat Noor is the Finance Manager-GL at the British American Tobacco Bangladesh. With a BBA and MBA from one of the top universities in the country, IBA, Noor represents a large number of the young dreamers in Dhaka, driven by passion and ambition. "I learnt about CIMA while browsing online, thinking of doing a professional degree," he says. "Later on, I got to learn more about CIMA at my workplace. My employer at that time was one of the biggest multinational FCMG company and they promoted CIMA globally."
According to Noor, there is quite a thick line between acquiring academic qualifications and professional qualifications. "There are different methods to approach a subject matter," he explains. While academic qualifications are required to build the basic, professional qualifications are required to run the extra mile. I felt I needed a professional qualification, along with the BBA and MBA, to back me up."
CIMA - a global qualification, with a huge number of students and members in developed countries - is a platform that is slowly, yet effectively growing in Bangladesh. "We need to compete in a global environment," says Noor. "Therefore, it is necessary for our professionals to have the same standard of knowledge that is acknowledged globally."
An element that sets CIMA apart is that it requires continuous professional development of its members. "For me, the journey with CIMA is for life!" exclaims Noor. "I can definitely develop myself further in the next many years which would definitely be beneficial to my career."
