'We know what we can do'
Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka said his troops were aware of their capabilities following their emphatic six-wicket victory over India in their Asia Cup Super 4 encounter in Dubai on Tuesday.
"The confidence in the dressing room is great," Shanaka said during the post-match presentation ceremony. "The bowlers in patches, they bowled well . Credit to Dilshan, and Theekshana, they bowled really well. The batters came out against them, but we did well," he added.
The Lankans had a disappointing start to their Asia Cup campaign as they were defeated by eight wickets against Afghanistan. But since then, they have been phenomenal, with three consecutive victories. They beat Bangladesh in the group stage and Afghanistan and India in the Super 4.
"We had good discussions after the first game, and we know what we can do. Pathum and Kusal set the tone brilliantly, and Rajapaksa and I set up the chase," the Sri Lankan skipper said.
Despite bowling only a couple of overs, Dasun picked up two key wickets [Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya] to stumble India's middle order. While he was adjudged player-of-the-match for his all-round performance, the skipper was asked why he hasn't completed his bowling quota.
"It's due to the team combination, so I haven't been bowling my quota. I need to take the best decision the team needs," Shanaka concluded.
