Girls back in training
A 35-member Bangladesh women's football squad reported to head coach Golam Rabbani Choton at the Bangladesh Football Federation headquarters yesterday, with training camp scheduled to start today.
The players are from different age levels -- both senior and junior -- as the game's local governing body has decided to provide female footballers with round-the-year-training, with a number of tournaments lined up for this year.
The members include the under-15 team players, who won the inaugural SAFF U-15 Championship at home last month, as well as the ones from the under-16 team that played in the final round of the AFC U-16 Championship in September last year, apart from senior players.
The under-15 team is supposed to have a busy year, with participation in a tri-nation tournament in Hong Kong expected in March and a proposed SAFF U-15 Women's Championship later in the year.
There is also a proposed SAFF U-18 Women's Championship and a SAFF Women's Championship for the senior teams expected to take place during 2018, even though the timings have not yet been finalised. There are two completely new events that the footballers will take part in, namely the Asian Games in Indonesia in August and AFC Futsal Championship in Thailand in April.
"There are seven to eight tournaments for women footballers this year. So this is part of training for all those tournaments, with players from all levels in the camp," Choton, the head coach of women's teams, told The Daily Star yesterday.
"This will be a holistic training, with all the players involved. We will have two training sessions each day, with focus on tactical and technical aspects and fitness," informed Choton, adding that almost all the players reported yesterday, with three others expected to join after their exams.
