Cricket at the BKSP: Bangladesh’s cradle of sports
Located 28 kilometres north-west of Dhaka, nestled in the green surrounds of Savar is the cradle of Bangladeshi sport. The Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishthan has under its wing 17 sports, of which cricket is just one, but few would argue that it is the most high-profile sport in the country, and so in the BKSP.
The world’s best ODI all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, Bangladesh Test captain Mushfiqur Rahim, Bangladesh player Nasir Hossain are some of the well-known graduates of this institution. While these players are now busy making the country proud, many of the future Shakibs and Mushfiqurs are busy honing their craft at the BKSP.
One such player is 17-year-old batsman and off-spinner Shamim Patwari, identified by his coaches – including chief cricket coach Masud Hasan – as one of the brightest prospects at the BKSP today.
