Under-19s rout Afghanistan
The Bangladesh Under-19 team notched a comprehensive 145-run victory over the visiting Afghanistan Under-19 side in the first encounter of a five-match Youth ODI series at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium yesterday.
Afghanistan were bundled out for just 77 runs as left-arm seamer Kazi Anik Islam and Nayeem Hasan decimated their batting order after Bangladesh posted 222 for nine in 50 overs.
Anik picked up four wickets while giving away just 27 runs from eight overs while Nayeem took three scalps for only 11 runs from nine overs.
Tariq Stanikzai's 16 was the highest score for Afghanistan and Nisarulhaq Wahdat (10) was the only other batsman to make it into double digits with Afghanistan failing to make a fighting stand.
Earlier, after being asked to bat, Bangladesh also looked shaky and were unable to build any strong partnerships before Towhid Hridly and Mahidul Islam added 75 runs for the fifth wicket.
Towhid top scored with 52 off 85, a knock that featured four boundaries, while Mahidul added 35 and all-rounder Anik accelerated the innings in the latter stages by scoring 27 off 24. Mujeeb Ur Rahman was the pick of the bowlers for Afghanistan, scalping four wickets while Tariq Stanikzai bagged another two.
All five matches will be played in Sylhet and Saif Hasan and his troops are set to take on Afghanistan in the second youth ODI tomorrow.
