Amazing six off six deliveries
Star Online Report
Young Luke Robinson took six wickets off six deliveries not only to turn a game on its head but became an instant hit across the world. The teenager returned figures of three overs, two maidens and one run for six wickets on Friday.
Officials at the club are now checking records to see if the feat has ever been achieved in its 149-year existence. However, it was the second time a bowler achieved the amazing feat this year after Aled Carey of Golden Point Cricket Club during a Ballarat Cricket Association fourth-team fixture in Australia.
The 13-year-old Robinson's team Philadelphia Cricket Club Under 13s looked like they were heading for defeat in a cup match on Friday after only managing to chalk up 76 runs during their innings batting.
After two indifferent overs, the pace bowler asked to be pulled from the bowling attack but was persuaded otherwise by his father Stephen, who was umpiring the match.
The move paid off and he cleaned bowled the first batsmen and with each successive ball the wickets continued to tumble.
As he took his mark ready to run in and unleash his last ball on the newly-installed batsman, some nerves at what he may be about to achieve hit him, said his proud father.
But the young fast bowler managed to compose himself and capped off the fine over with his sixth and final wicket, and the meteoric batting collapse was complete.
The demoralised batting side Langley Park Under 13s were eventually all out for a meagre 18 runs after Robinson's phenomenal double hat-trick that took his team to the Cup semifinal.
Philadelphia CCC tweeted: "Congratulations to our U13 Luke Robinson who took 6 wickets in an over tonight, all bowled v Langley Park U13s £6in6balls#wellbowled."
The meteoric achievement has been hailed by cricket fans and Robinson's 'dream over' has been nominated for Cricket World 'performance of the week'.
His father Stephen, 45, from Houghton-le-Spring, near Sunderland, who was umpiring in the match, said: "It was a surreal experience.
"He'd actually bowled two overs and not had any wickets. He was asking to be changed so that he could save his last one for later on in the innings.
"But I told him to keep on going and what he produced was just a procession. You only bowl three overs at under 13s level. I was umpiring at the end he was bowling, it was the perfect over.
"He was nervous for the hattrick ball and for the sixth ball when he came to run up he stopped and had to go back to his mark and compose himself.
"You only dream about these things.
"It was perfect. Langley Park were looking good at 10/1 but, after Luke's over, they ended up getting just 18. He works hard at his cricket and plays hard too."
Robinson, who played his first competitive match aged five, already plays for Durham County's Under 13 team and has even turned out for Philadelphia Senior's Second XI.
