‘Snapping of utilities only will escalate situation’
A widespread condemnation and criticism poured in over social media on today’s snapping of power, cable and internet to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s office in Dhaka by the authorities. In the wake of ongoing political violence, it has become quite evident that the government is desperate to make the opposition to somehow withdraw its blockade which has been enforced since January 5.

Most of the people think this move by stopping the utility services by the concerned authorities will only worsen the on-going political confrontation between the Awami League-led government and BNP-led 20-party alliance.
The Daily Star in a Facebook post innitiated readers and followers to voice their opinion on the issue asking them whether such a move will force Khaleda to withdraw blockade and they think this strategy would bear fruit?
“This is not a right way to solve the problem. We hate politics of killing. We want peace and security of our life. Is there no solution to overcome from the present situation? Ehsan Ahmad commented.

Terming the strategy “narrow minded” many followers of Daily Star Facebook page condemned it straightaway.
“It is state & govt. narrow minded step. Political problem never solution by power,” one Nirob Sikder said.
Sk Md Nur Nobi commented on the media role amid this political chaos saying, “Answer is BIG NO. But you media guys are balancing two parties all the time. You have to stand for one side so that the problem could be resolved.”
Our readers also criticised the current uncompromising political standoff between AL and BNP.
“No! This is so indiscreet of them, but from these obstinate leaders of ruling and opposition we cannot expect anything else!” says Joy Karmakeer.
Alo Chaya said, “Government of Bangladesh should discuss with opposition party how to solve political problem, it’s not fair I think it’s one kind of torture to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia. There is no difference between government and opposition parties. Both parties lost their mind and government is misusing power. We want peace, nothing else.”
On the contrary, a good number of people supported the government move saying that Khaleda must be forced to withdraw violent political movement -- blockade and hartal – for holding the upcoming SSC examinations peacefully.

“She (Khaleda) and her team (BNP) should have respect for the students who will appear in SSC exam!!! How could she do this? called 72 hrs strike!!! Of course She is not passed SSC that’s true and has no respect for education!!! Thats normal!!!” one Tawfiq Al Karim Tak said.
Muhammad Rabby reacted, “It's funny how 'Block Heads' are criticizing Govt. for cutting Khaleda's office's power supply but not saying anything against and even supporting violent hartal/ blockade and torching of innocent people.”
