Review: The story is fairly unoriginal, making it seem like a rendition of various comic classics. However, the odd-couple action comedy covers up for the script and creates some hilarious moments that are justified given the potential of the cast.
The chemistry between Kevin Hart and Dwayne Johnson is considerably well-matched and make for perfect comic wit. Even though this movie is their first pairing, their chemistry seemed incredibly natural. The double-rhythms, alternating between laid-back and hyperactive generated by the actors come together in incredible syncopation making the whole experience oddly perfect.
The CGI used to inflate Dwayne Johnson into the young, overweight, high school teenager was incredibly done and stands as one of the most hilarious moments in the film. Dwayne portrays Bob Stone, the physically imposing yet laid-back CIA agent with utmost ease, making it seem almost too good to be true. Kevin plays Calvin, who was once the high school golden boy now embraces reality and becomes a mid-level accountant, with no difficulty while throwing jabs of humour throughout the movie.
The movie succeeds mainly due to the packed comedy liners remarkably done by Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart. The movie is very entertaining to watch and is able to make a mark as one of the funniest in this year's comedy list.
