Sultan
Sultan is a classic underdog tale about wrestler's journey, looking for a comeback by defeating all odds. Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, it was produced by Aditya Chopra under the Yash Raj banner. The film stars Salman Khan and Anushka Sharma in the lead roles. Sultan took a massive opening on the first two days with Rs. 73.78 crores, by the end of 35th day it had earned 300 crores and had become the highest grossing Bollywood movie of 2016.
Ae Dil Hai Mushkil
This Bollywood drama centers on a love triangle between an aspiring singer, the lonely daughter of an aristocratic family and a poet still reeling from her recent divorce.
It has taken a fantastic start at the box office.The film stars Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and Fawad Khan. Directed by Karan Johar, this movie earned 112.50 crore.
M.S Dhoni
The untold story: The biopic of Indian cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni played by Sushant Singh Rajput traces his life from his days as a young athlete to his success as the captain of Indian cricket team.
The film was directed by Neeraj Pandey. This Biographic Sports film is loved by the audiences and doing well at box office too, it became the second highest non- holiday opening film of the year and earned 132.85 crore.
Pink
An unexpected hit, the Amitabh Bacchan starrer garnered worldwide critical acclaim. A courtroom drama in its truest form, it does not quite fit in the traditional formula of Bollywood Masala films. The film is based on a true event near south Delhi, and it earned about 60 crores in three weeks which is amazing considering its budget and style.
Dangal
Amir Khan is no stranger to breaking records. The release of Dangal late in 2016 shook up the entire industry, with the movie collecting a whopping 100 crores in its first weekend. As some critics have said that it is the best movie of the year, this has to be in the list even though it is a late release.
