THE FLIGHT OF DOYEL
When have you started in the media?
It all began with a photoshoot for Prothom Alo's 'Noksha' supplement. I decided to give it a shot without a second thought. It was back at 14 August, 2014, and I remember the date because it was quite special to me. Afterwards, I started getting offers for other magazines and eventually started work on the ramp. Since I have come to this business without any prior preparation, I would say I am learning bit by bit as I go.
People have always criticized the lifestyle of ramp models. What is your take on that?
Fortunately I have yet to come across any serious criticism regarding that. I personally think one's lifestyle is entirely one's own. People shouldn't really judge you because of that. It all depends on how you conduct yourself and how you do your work.
A lot of stars who were successful in the ramp haven't had as much success in acting. Why do you think that happens?
That's quite natural, in my opinion. Some people might not have interest in acting. Besides, the magnitudes of the two stages are quite different. The ramp is all about glamour and exhibiting fabulous outfits. But when it comes to the set, you have to be prepared in an entirely different way. The work that you do when acting demands a different kind of requirement. Honestly, I cannot judge my own success in acting until the movie comes out and everyone enjoys it.
How did you come across the opportunity of working in Nasiruddin Yousuff's "Alpha"?
As I said before, I had little to no experience before coming to the media. One day, I got called in for a screen-test for "Alpha". There I got introduced to Esha Yousuf, who informed me just 3-4 days later that I got the role I was auditioning for. Shooting started as suddenly as I had gotten the role. I went to the spots to rehearse and I was asked which dialect I can emphasize upon. Since I am from Rangpur, I said I can use my regional dialect and they went with that. It all went by in such a rush that I couldn't really keep track of the pace, but nonetheless, it was a wonderful opportunity for me.
Where do you want to see yourself in the future?
I want to see myself as a great actress in the future. Passion is what makes me work in both the ramp and the set, but I especially want to focus on the silver screen since I believe film is what begun my career in show business.
What kind of roles can we expect you in?
In "Alpha", I starred as the primary protagonist. I have also worked in "Chandrabati Kotha" as the titular character Chandrabati, as well as a role in the film "Lal Moroger Jhuti".
What else have you worked on?
I have had my fair share of advertisement features. My first one was for Surf Excel, and then three times in Horlicks ads and also Anwar Cement. Since then I have worked with numerous famous media personalities such as Farooki bhai, Kislu bhai, Mejbaur Rahman Sumon, and many more.
How has your life changed since coming to the show business?
Life right now is certainly a lot busier! Before, I used to spend time studying, going to university, hanging out with friends, etc. There was a friend circle that I always interacted with. But now, I have to work when I am demanded to do work, but I still do try to make time for my friends. Life before entering this business was fun, but this life is fun too.
What is the ideal image you have of yourself?
I just want to work hard whenever I am given work. I want to work in such a way that makes people realize my potential. Above all, I just want to focus on a simple lifestyle and be known as a simple girl.
Do you have any hobbies?
I really like riding bicycles. I also like visiting new places but nowhere too well-known. I don't know why, but whenever I visit abroad, I end up going to locations no one usually goes to or talks about.
Who are you inspirations?
My eldest sister is my biggest inspiration. She always told me, "Whatever you do, do it with utmost concentration." I remember watching the likes of Azra apu and Emi apu and thinking to myself, "What if I could walk like them?" Even though no one from my family had done this line of work, they encouraged me to follow my dreams. Besides that, effort in general, from anyone around me, greatly inspires me.
Anything else you want to add?
There are a lot of new talents in the industry who are struggling to make a name for themselves, but aren't being able to do that for various reasons. Be it restrictions or otherwise, they need proper grooming to truly thrive in the business. I myself am working as hard as I can. I want to keep moving forward with all the love my fans have given me.
