Emotional Intelligence for Success
The companies worldwide routinely look through the lens of emotional intelligence while hiring, promoting, and developing their employees. It is said that CEO's are hired for their intellect and expertise but are also often fired for lack of emotional intelligence that is required to manage negative emotions, stress and social relationships.
Most recruiters in the hiring positions in Bangladesh often complain that recent graduates they are interviewing or hiring are unemployable as they lack skills to communicate, solve problems, take initiatives and effectively analyse their own strengths and weaknesses to help themselves become more dynamic.
In today's world, the education system unfortunately is not adequately funded to run programmes that can provide the learners with the skills to make better life choices and propel them towards a purposeful life through nurturing creativity, care, respect, independent thinking and promoting self and global awareness.
Observing this need to build our students as human capital, "Heroes for All", a non profit youth organisation in collaboration with the AIUB Computer Fest, 2016 conducted a two-hour workshop session titled, "Emotional Intelligence for Success" at the AUB Auditorium on November 23, 2017. Dr. Rehnuma Karim, Founder and President of Heroes for All, along with Irfat Ahmed Shilpi, CEO of Global Infrastructure Ltd. and Shayokh Ahmad, Chairman and CEO of Xurtilas provided real world scenarios to highlight the need of developing emotional intelligence for a successful and happy life. Being a patron to transform the youth of today, The Daily Star supported the event as the Youth Engagement Partner of the organization.
One hundred and seventy-five students took part at the session interacting with the speakers and reflecting on their dreams, aspirations and goals in life through developing their personal mission statement. They also identified the areas of emotional intelligence they needed to work on. The speakers provided insights on the different domains of emotional intelligence that contribute towards a successful life.
Along with the discussion, the speakers further explained its need in relation to the concept with their personal experiences. The students particularly found this session to be very helpful as the process of analysing prepared them for their careers.
The mission of "Heroes for All" is to build an inclusive platform for the youth population of Bangladesh. It aims to develop the youth as morally responsible and informed global citizens focusing on career, personal, social and intercultural skill development.
