Delegates shine at UNYSAB MUN 2016
The largest international model United Nations conference outside Dhaka, the UNYSAB Model United Nations (UNYSAB MUN) 2016 was held on September 29 to October 2 at University of Rajshahi. The Rajshahi Divisional Wing of UNYSAB organised this MUN conference for the 3rd time in Rajshahi after the successful completion of UNYSAB MUN 2014 and UNYSAB MUN 2015 with University of Rajshahi and UNIC Dhaka as strategic partners. The theme of the MUN conference was "Reconciling the Economic & Environmental Goals of Global Community."
The conference started with a grand opening ceremony at Dr. Kaiser Rahman Chowdhury Auditorium, Rajshahi Medical College. Officer in charge of UNIC, Dhaka, Md. Moniruzzaman, Chairman, Social Work Department, RU, Prof. Dr. Sadequl Arefin Matin, student advisor Mizanur Rahman were present as guests.
Mohammad Mamun Mia, Secretary General of UNYSAB MUN 2016 and President of UNYSAB started his speech welcoming all the delegates. Md. Moniruzzaman thanked the Rajshahi University authority for the assistance in organising such a conference and announced the official inauguration of a 4-day long conference.
The opening ceremony was followed by plenary and committee sessions. The participants, comprising of 350 students from 32 schools, colleges and universities gathered as delegates from different countries under 6 committees and debated on different agendas. The committees were United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), United Nations Security Council (UNSC), Economic and Financial Program (ECOFIN), United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and Specialised Committee for Bangladesh Affairs (SCBA).
UNYSAB MUN 2016 ended with a festive closing ceremony at Senate Bhaban, University of Rajshahi. VC of Rajshahi University, Professor Muhammad Mizanuddin was the chief guest while Professor Dr. Sadekul Arefin Matin was present as the special guest. Before the closing ceremony, Member of Parliament, Fazle Hossain Badsha held a session named "Meet the Dignitary" at Dean's Complex. At the end of the closing ceremony, a certificate awarding ceremony was held where a total of 24 awards were distributed in different categories.
A grand dinner was arranged after the closing ceremony with the presence of guests, delegates and the organisers.
Mubashwira Marchi from RU, a delegate of India from UNDP committee, said, "UNYSAB MUN 2016 is one of the best motions to guide you. I enjoyed and learned a lot from this conference."
