IUB Business Carnival
If you walked into IUB anytime on March 22, you would stop on your tracks. You would see a nagordola just inside the premises, surrounded by a number of stalls manned by students. This was not just another fair organised by the university. It was an assignment for the students of the MKT 330: Sales Force Management course.
Dean, School of Business, Dr. Sarwar Ahmed explained how this improves understanding and interactions with service consumers. He also mentioned how this event had grown from being indoors to taking over the amphitheatre. He was proud of the expansion of the carnival and thanked the hard working and creative students.
This carnival stood out from many other similar occasions. Instead of selling products, the participating students offered unique services, some of which were completely radical in the history of the institution. Ramita Saha, leading Oasis Acrylic Nail Art, when asked why she provided this particular service, answered succinctly - "Because I'm good at it."
Seven groups of "next generation entrepreneurs" did not shy away from the challenge. Mohtasim Rezvee opted to go for arcade games for many to reminisce over classic games like King of Fighters, Street Fighter, and Cadillacs & Dinosaurs; alternatively, you could try your hand at popping balloons with an air gun. One could maybe challenge a friend to throw darts, or shoot hoops, courtesy of Himadry Chakraborty. Next to them, a posse of tenacious girls with practiced hands busied themselves over painting nails all day. The nagordola was part of a two-act show in conjunction with a magic show. You could get yourself sketched; you could get yourself photographed by professional photographers, and even be provided with religious guidance from a hujur.
The faculty of the course, Abul Khair Jyote, stated that it was a unique opportunity for students to show off their creative capabilities. "All expenses theirs to bear, all profits theirs to reap" was the punch line. IUB is encouraging students to make good use of their entrepreneurial capabilities. The students were very successful in bringing out the festive atmosphere inside the campus.
