DIU observes World Environment Day 2015
Environmental Science and Disaster Management (ESDM) department of Daffodil International University observed World Environment Day at its campus premises on June 6, 2015 with increasing concerns about climate change across the world based on the theme "Seven Billion Dreams: One Planet, Consume with Care". Students of ESDM brought out a rally from the main university campus. Dr. ABM Kamal Pasha, Head, ESDM Department lead the rally followed by a discussion session. Md. Anowar Habib Kazal, Senior Assistant Director (PR), DIU also took part in the programme.
EWUCRT arranges seminar on "Poverty in South Asia Region"
A seminar on "Poverty in South Asia Region" was held on June 1, 2015 at East West University. Professor Amitabh Kundu, Senior Fellow, Delhi Policy Group; Former Dean, School of Social Sciences and Professor, Centre for the Study of Regional Development (CSRD), Jawaharlal Nehru University was the keynote speaker. The seminar was organised by EWU Center for Research and Training (EWUCRT) in collaboration with UGC/World Bank Sub-project: Knowledge Transfer and Capacity Development of Academic Staff (CP: 3296) and Department of Social Relations, EWU.
Professor Dr. Kundu suggested that South Asia, despite doing extremely well in achieving some of the targets of Millennium Development Goal in comparison to other parts of the world, lagged behind in a few of them.
Dr. Gowher Rizvi speaks at AIUB
In the Summer 2014-15 edition of the Dr. Anwarul Abedin Lecture Series, Dr. Gowher Rizvi, political scientist and the international affairs adviser to the Prime Minister of Bangladesh was the distinguished guest speaker on May 27, 2015 at American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) Auditorium.
Dr Gowher delivered a motivating speech on "India-Bangladesh relations" in the context of Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi's visit to Bangladesh on the first week of June 2015. Dr. Rizvi claimed that many unresolved issues with India were settled in the last five years due to Bangladesh's good bilateral relations with the neighbouring country. The VC of AIUB, Dr. Carmen Z Lamagna graced the occasion with her valuable presence. A welcome speech was delivered by Dr. ABM Siddique Hossain, Dean, and Faculty of Engineering.
Summer 2015 orientation programme at UIU
United International University (UIU) held a two-day long programme held on May 27-28, 2015 for the newly admitted students of Summer 2015 trimester at the UIU Auditorium.
UIU VC Prof. Dr. M. Rezwan Khan, presided over the ceremonies while Pro-VC Prof. Dr. Chowdhury Mofizur Rahman, Dean, School of Business & Economics, Prof. Dr. Md. Musa, Dean, School of Science and Engineering Prof. Dr. SM Lutful Kabir, Prof. Dr. Amirul Islam Chowdhury. Dept. of Economics, MBA Program Coordinator Prof. Dr. M. Sadiqul Islam, BBA Program Director, Prof. Dr. Abu Saleh Md. Sohel-Uz-Zaman, EEE Head, Prof. Dr. Md. Raqibul Mostafa, CSE Head, Dr. Salekul Islam, Registrar Prof. A.S.M.Salahuddin, Director of Students Affairs, Suman Ahmed spoke at the programme.
HUBDS organises debate workshop
Hamdard University Bangladesh Debating Society (HUBDS) organised their 1st Debate Workshop on May 30, 2015 at the Hamdard University Bangladesh (HUB) premise. The workshop started followed by an opening ceremony. Rafiqul Islam, Vice Chancellor (Acting) graced the event as the chief guest. The opening ceremony was conducted by Farooq Hossain, President, Hamdard Biswabidyalay Bangladesh Sonskriti-Chorcha Kendro (HBBSCK), and Nujhat Nuari Islam, Chief Coordinator, HUBDS. Mahmuda Akter, Coordinator, HUBDS, coordinated the club activities. The acting VC then inaugurated the 2nd HUB Debate Mash Up 2015 by saying that HUB will always encourage the extra-curricular activities. Students need to be involved in various social activities alongside their study.
Films screened at IUB
Four independent films on the theme of peace and tolerance in Bangladesh were screened at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) on June 4, 2015 at IUB permanent campus in Bashundhara, Dhaka.
Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) and University of California, San Diego (UCSD) jointly hosted the film festival at IUB where four films (The Unknown, Language for Peace, Realization and Lokkho - In Pursuit of Peace) were produced by the students of IUB, Chittagong University (CU), Rajshahi University (RU) and American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) in the year 2014. Professor Robert Hooper of the UCSD served as tutor and mentor of the filmmakers. Renowned media personality and former Director General of BTV, M Hamid was the moderator of the programme. Rashed Chowdhury, Chairman, BOT, IUB, attended the event as the chief guest while VC Prof. M Omar Rahman and visiting assistant Dean of UCSD Teresa Olcemandy were special guests of honour.
