Sayedee verdict shocks law minister
Law Minister Anisul Huq has expressed his dissatisfaction by the Supreme Court verdict that commuted the death sentence of Delawar Hossain Sayedee to imprisonment till death and said he will take steps to bring change in the prosecution team.
Expressing his utmost respect for all judgements passed by any court of Bangladesh as a citizen and a member of the government, the law minster told The Daily Star, “But as a son and brother of freedom fighters I am shocked, disappointed and mentally hurt by it.”
The SC today commuted the death sentence of Jamaat leader Delawar Hossain Sayedee to imprisonment till death for his crimes against humanity committed during the country’s Liberation War in 1971.
“I have a plan to take serious steps to bring change in the present prosecution team, it has always been said that there was some lacking on the part of the prosecution and at present I also find a lot of conflict within the team,” the minister said.
“Probably I will wait till the pending judgements are delivered by the International Crimes Tribunals,” he added.
