Sayedee shifted to Dhaka jail after medical check-up
Convicted war criminal Delawar Hossain Sayedee was shifted to Dhaka Central Jail today after his medical check-up at the BSMMU following his complaint of chest pain.
The 74-year-old Jamaat-e-Islami leader was first taken to the Gazipur District Hospital after he felt chest pain at Kashimpur High Security Jail in Gazipur around 3:00pm yesterday, his lawyer Tajul Islam told The Daily Star.
He was transferred to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) around 3:00am today, Tajul said.
After his medical check-up, the doctors found nothing serious, said Farman Ali, senior jail super of the prison.
Later, the nayeb-e-ameer of Jamaat was released and taken to the Dhaka jail, he added.
The Supreme Court on September 17 commuted his death sentence handed down by International Crimes Tribunal-1 for his crimes against humanity committed in the country’s Liberation War in 1971.
The ICT sentenced him to death on February 28 last year on charges of killing, abduction, torture, rape and forced religious conversion.
