Robbers shoot dead pregnant woman in Cox’s Bazar
Robbers shot dead a six-month pregnant woman and took away around 10 bhories of gold ornaments and other valuables from a house at Chakaria upazila in Cox’s Bazar early Friday.
The victim was identified as Sarmin Akhtar Nilufa, 26, wife of Sirajul Islam a son of a businessman of the upazila, reports our Cox’s Bazar correspondent.
A group of robbers numbering six to seven equipped with firearms entered a house of Syed Ahmed Shawdagar, the local businessman, at the village of Rangmahal of the upazila at around 2:00am, quoting Provath Chandra Dhar, officer-in-charge of Chakaria Police Station, the correspondent said.
The robbers took 10 bhories of gold ornaments and Tk 3 lakh in cash away from the house and fired two rounds of bullets when residents of the house refused them to give their valuables easily, the OC said.
The robbers managed to flee the house leaving Nilufa dead and her brother-in-law Khurshed Alam Bhutto injured, the OC added.
A case was filed with the police station against seven people including one Hayat Ullah who is an identified robber and accused of several criminal charges including murder, the OC said.
Later, police launched raids at different parts in the area and arrested Hayat in the connection.
The injured Khurshed Alam Bhutto is now undergoing treatment at Chakaria Upazila Health Complex.
