Relaxed hartal in 2 dists
The daylong hartal enforced by local units of BNP is progressing in a relaxed way in Natore and two upazilas of Kushtia today.
BNP has enforced the hartal protesting against vote-rigging, centre-grabbing and driving out voters from polling centres during Thursday’s upazila elections.
No untoward incident was reported at 11:00am when the report was filed.
Our Natore correspondent reports, no bus were seen plying the internal routes of the district but long distance bus and three-wheelers are running as usual.
All the examinations have been kept out of the purview of the hartal, Aminul Haque, BNP secretary general of district unit, told The Daily Star.
In Kushtia, people are carrying out all the daily activities in Khoksha upazila defying the hartal.
But all business establishment were remained closed in Kumarkhali upazila where BNP enforced the hartal protesting irregularities during the hartal.
Our Noakhali correspondent reports that BNP had called a dawn-to-dusk hartal for today protesting vote rigging at different polling centres across the district.
But the party withdrew the hartal yesterday due today’s SSC examinations, said Alal Md Shahjahan, BNP president of district unit.
