Razzak spins South to final
Abdur Razzak's match haul of nine wickets spun Prime Bank South Zone to a six-wicket victory against Islami Bank East Zone on the third day of their Bangladesh Cricket League match at BKSP yesterday.
The other game at the BKSP saw Mahmudullah Riyad complete a double hat-trick, for Central Zone as he ended up taking four wickets in four balls. While he got two scalps yesterday, his previous two wickets came in the last two balls of the first innings, which saw North Zone score 457.
In spinners-dominated affairs at the BKSP in the both last round matches, Razzak captured five wickets in the second innings as East Zone's better showing with the bat in their second essay ended on 341 runs that could only set a 101-run winning target for the South Zone.
Young spinner Mosaddek Hossain jolted the South Zone by taking four wickets but national opener Anamul Haque made his second consecutive half-century to make sure South Zone reach the target in 19 overs with six wickets in hand.
The victory increased South Zone's tally to 41 points and took them into the final. Their opponents for the title-decider, scheduled to start on May 9 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, will be determined following the result of the other match between the BCB North Zone and Walton Central Zone today. Central Zone have 31 points and North Zone followed them one point behind.
Left-arm spinner Elias Sunny took five wickets after Mahmudullah Riyad hit an unbeaten hundred but still Walton Central Zone finished the day with a daunting task ahead as they need 266 more runs today to win the match against North Zone.
Despite Riyad's hundred, North Zone were on top thanks to left-arm spinner Taijul Islam's six-wicket haul but their batting was found wanting in the second innings when they were bowled out for 87 runs.
Pacer Shahadat Hossain caused the early damage and then out-of-favour spinner Sunny destroyed North Zone to bring Central Zone back into contention.
