Rafiur Rabbi’s nomination cancelled
Election Commission (EC) today cancelled the nomination of Rafiur Rabbi, convener of Santrash Nirmul Mancha, for the upcoming Narayanganj-5 by-polls on loan default charges.
An election officer, seeking anonymity, confirmed it to Bangla daily Prothom Alo.
The valid and cancelled nomination papers will be made public on completion of the EC’s selection process, the official said.
Rabbi, father of Tanwir Muhammed Taqi who was killed by miscreants in March last year, on May 21 filed nomination papers to contest the election, scheduled for June 26, as an independent candidate.
A total of eight candidates submitted nomination papers for participating in the election on Thursday, the concluding date for filing the papers.
The Narayanganj-5 constituency fell vacant as its lawmaker Nasim Osman died on April 30.
