Rab boss comes under fire
The Rab boss today came under fire from a parliamentary panel for its personnel’s alleged involvement in the murder of seven people including Narayanganj city panel mayor Nazrul Islam.
In response, Mukhlesur Rahman, director general of the elite force, assured the members of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home that they will not try to save if any Rab men found involved in the gruesome killings.
“We have got instructions from the highest authority to bring perpetrators to book. We will not spare anybody no matter whether they are Rab men. Rab will not play hide and seek while investigating the incident,” a lawmaker who was present in the meeting at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban quoted the Rab DG as saying.
Citing example of taking actions against Rab members found involved in robbing Tk 2.07 crore from a shrine in Chittagong in May 2012, the Rab boss told the meeting that they must unearth the facts in any situation.
Emerging from the meeting, Tipu Munshi, chief of the JS body, told reporters that the committee expressed concern over the law and order as well as abduction and killing of seven people in Narayanganj.
“We are embarrassed at the situation. And in this situation, we have no alternative to unearth the truth—who were involved with the incident,” Tipu, also a ruling Awami League MP, added.
