Rab announces reward for anarchists’ arrest
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) today announced Tk 10,000 to Tk 1 lakh reward for helping the elite force in arresting anarchists to contain political violence.
“Identity of the informers will not be disclosed,” Rab Director General Benazir Ahmed said while addressing a press briefing at Rab headquarters in the morning.
The Rab chief came up with the announcement three days after the government declared bounty on troublemakers in wake of violence during the BNP-led 20-party alliance’s countrywide nonstop blockade.
Rab will reward Tk 1 lakh and Tk 50,000 for sharing information on “planners” and “organisers” of arson and crude bomb attacks respectively.
Around Tk 1 lakh will be given to a person for helping the law enforcers in arresting petrol bomb attackers red handed.
Total Tk 25,000 reward has been announced for helping arrest of the attackers from TV footages. If anyone helps the elite force members in arresting the crude bombs attackers red handed will receive the same amount.
Around Tk 20,000 will be given for information on petrol bomb attackers while 10,000 for providing photographs on vandalism, arson and crude bomb attacks.
The political situation of the country heated up once again, a year after the January 5 elections since the start of this year with the 10th polls’ first anniversary – the day ruling Awami League labels as “democracy saving day” and the BNP as “democracy killing day”.
On January 5, the BNP-led 20-party alliance called the nonstop blockade in response to Khaleda's confinement in her Gulshan office in Dhaka.
Though BNP chief Khaleda Zia is now apparently free from confinement, she declared that their agitation would continue for a fresh participatory polls under nonpartisan body.
The protests turned violent, with at least 30 people already killed and around 900 injured, mostly in arson attacks.
