Shakil laid to rest in Mymensingh
Mahbubul Hoque Shakil was laid to rest at his Mymensingh hometown this evening after hundreds of people paid tributes to him.
After first namaj-e-janaza at Dhaka University’s central mosque and second one at local Anjuman Eidgah ground after maghrib prayers, he was buried at the town’s Bhatikashar Municipal graveyard.
Shakil, a special assistant to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, died of cardiac arrest at a restaurant in Dhaka yesterday at the age of 47.
When the body of Shakil reached at his town’s Baghmara residence around 2.30pm, a heart rending scene was created. Nothing could stop the wailing of Shakil’s parents, family members and relatives and well-wishers.

Similar situation prevailed on DU campus too when Shakil’s first janaza was held at the central mosque as hundreds of his well-wishers broke in tears. He was a popular student leader during 1990s.
Many who knew Shakil from his student life came to DU campus from different parts of the country.
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, ministers Syed Ashraful Islam, Asaduzzaman Noor, Mosharraf Hossain, DU Vice Chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique along with hundreds of people of all walks of lives attended the janaza.
After the janaza, they paid their last tributes to their beloved Shakil. Around 11:30am, an ambulance carrying Shakil’s body left the campus for his Mymensing residence. A police van gave protocol to the ambulance. A huge motorcade comprising some 200 vehicles joined the ambulance through the way from the capital to the district.
AL central leaders Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, Abu Sayeed Al Mahmud Swapan, Asim Kumar Ukil, and SM Kamal Hossain, PM’s APS Saifuzzaman Shekhor and Deputy Press Secretary Ashraful Alam Khokon, among others, accompanied the motorcade, reports our Mymensingh Correspondent.
Before his second namaj-e-janaza around 4.00pm, the body was kept at local Town Hall premises for all to pay the last tribute.
Hearing about his demise, ministers, AL leaders, relatives, friends, cultural activists and well-wishers started gathering at his Baghmara since yesterday.
Shakil left behind his wife Nulufar Yesmin and daughter Rubaba Yesmin as well as a host of relatives, friends and admirers to mourn his death.
His father advocate Jahirul Hoque Khoka is the incumbent administrator of Mymensingh Zila Parishad and also the president of Mymensingh district unit AL.
Born on December 20, 1968 in Tangail, Shakil was a forefront leader and good organizer of anti-autocracy students' movement in '80s.
A former senior vice-president and organising secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), Shakil had a great liking for both poetry and prose writings.
