PM to visit India in April
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will make an official visit to neighbouring India in the first half of April.
PM’s Deputy Press Secretary M Nazrul Islam disclosed the information to reporters after visiting Indian foreign secretary Subrahmanyam Jaishankar called on the premier at her parliament office.
“Prime minister will go to India in the first half of April,” Nazrul told reporters after the half an hour long meeting. He also said that it was a primary discussion.
Meeting sources said PM and Jaishankar also discussed on the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation that has been inoperative for long. They opined that though the activities of SAARC has been stagnant due to Pakistan, the organisation should be kept functioning.

Besides, they also stressed the need for regional connectivity.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi invited Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to India during his visit to Bangladesh in 2015. The visit was scheduled to be held in the last December.
The tour was postponed when both sides were engaged in intense negotiations on the signing of over two dozen instruments and making formal announcements on issues, including matters that had a certain degree of sensitivity.
During the Indian foreign affairs state minister M J Akbar’s visit to Dhaka in December last, PMO officials hinted for the visit in February but the visit was postponed too.
Before leaving Dhaka, Akbar said that Indian government and its people have eagerly been waiting for Bangladesh premier.
Bangladesh Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali earlier said that the premier’s visit to India would be an important one. All would be informed on due time, he said.
Bangladesh foreign affairs state minister Shahriar Alam, foreign secretary Shahidul Huque and Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Harsh Vardhan Shringla, among others, were present at the meeting.
