Obaidul pessimistic with BNP’s ‘happiness’
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader today expressed concerns over whether BNP’s “happiness” over the prevailing political development will be long lived.
Referring to yesterday’s talks between BNP and President Abdul Hamid over Election Commission reconstitution, the AL leader said: “BNP’s previous happiness after meeting former President Zillur Rahman over the same issue was short lived.”
“We hope that good sense will prevail and BNP will participate in the next general elections,” Quader said in a programme held in Dhaka today.
BNP yesterday met President Hamid over reconstitution of the next Election Commission that will oversee the upcoming general election. President Hamid welcomed BNP’s proposal of forming a search committee that will hunt for potential election commissioners.
After the meeting, BNP said it was greatly satisfied with the discussion and hoped that the process of dialogue will continue to prevail an example of democracy in the country.
BNP REGRETS AL’S COMMENTS
Meanwhile, pulling reference to Obaidul Quader’s comments of yesterday, BNP senior Joint Secretary General Rizvi Ahmed expressed regret and added such wordings were uncongenial.
Obaidul Quader, yesterday in a programme in Dhaka, expressed concerns with the level of output in the meeting held between BNP and the president.
Apart from pulling reference to Obaidul’s comments, Rizvi also expressed concerns over the fairness of city corporation elections in Narayanganj alleging that “criminals were already flocking in the city ahead of the December 22 polls.”
